Happy 19th birthday to Leonor, Princess of Asturias!

Born October 31st 2005, Leonor de Todos Los Santos de Borbon y Ortiz is the heir presumptive to the Spanish throne as the eldest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain.

If she ascends to the throne, she would be Spain's first queen regnant since Isabella ll, who reigned from 1833 to 1868.

Leonor received an International Baccalaureate at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, United Kingdom. In preparation for her role as Spain's commander-in-chief, following her father's footsteps, Leonor is currently completing a 3-year military training education.

She completed her education at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza on July 2024, and is currently attending the Naval Military Academy in Marín.

I've been paying attention to the Spanish Royal Family since Leonor turned 18 and has done more engagements and to me, what they're doing should be the blueprint for W&K. I agree with an anon that a RF should be a mix of family, tradition and diplomacy and the SRF have invested in all of this.

And here's the thing. I don't care much if W&K do things badly, they'll bare the consequences. The problem is that'll impact Georges negatively. Felipe and Letizia are not raising normal children, they're raising princesses and a future queen and it shows. Leonor has already done several public speeches on her own and is also currently following a military training, even though she's a girl, because it's what should be done. Saying Georges is being raised as a normal kid, that he's not expecting to go to the military if he doesn't want, that he wont be a working royal before his 30s, just like his parents, is not helping him. W&K might be great parents, but I wonder if Georges wont resent them in the futur because he was ill prepared for the job. Felipe became king when his daughters were the same age as the Wales kids, and he didn't have his siblings or aunts/uncles to help him and share the work. And yet the whole family seem to love and support each other deeply, no jealousy whatsoever. So yes it's possible to be a working royal and parents and still do a great job at raising your children.

Princess Leonor and her unit from the General Military Academy are pictured in Astún, where they are undergoing a week of mountain and skiing military training and staying at the Army's Candanchú Mountain Hut.

Back in February 2017 Princess Leonor spent a weekend with her parents and her sister skiing in Astún.
